Dear GTNGers and Friends:
Mark Norris, Jan Anderson, and I met informally (as there was no quorum)
via conference call on Tuesday, February 17 and agreed that the structure
established more than eight years ago as "Gathering the Next Generation,
Incorporated" no longer fits the needs of GTNG the network. Specifically,
re-establishing a bank account and attempting to sustain an active Core
Team (monthly conference calls, sub-group meetings, e-mail conversations,
etc...) appears to need energy and time that no one really has available
and does not facilitate the work of the email lists or the web site in
sustaining the network of relationships that have been established. Many
have asked "What does the Core Team do, and why do we need one?" The
answers appear to be "not much" and "we don't."
In short, the current plan is to disband GTNG, Inc. in favor of allowing
the email lists and web site to continue without a formal structure. We
would retain the designated moderators on the email lists and perhaps one
or two webmasters that would form an informal "steering committee" or
something similar for GTNG. GTNG will then function solely as an
Internet-based organization. The formal vote for dissolution will be taken
at a Core Team conference call sometime in March.
Any thoughts about this?
